Every pregnant woman knows that it is important to take vitamins before, during, and after pregnancy. Before- to prep your body for your new little one, during- to supplement your diet and prevent birth defects, and after- to keep your vitamin and mineral stores supplemented while you breastfeed. I have been taking prenatal vitamins religiously from the first day knowing that I was pregnant because I felt that my first child took a lot out of me and I needed help to replenish my body for my little boy.
Nature Made makes a great prenatal vitamin with 200 mg of DHA in one softgel. I remember trying another prenatal vitamin with the DHA in a separate capsule and it really upset my stomach. So it's very convenient having to take just one softgel. Their particular product offers the following:
- 200mg DHA – DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid that plays an important role in brain development, especially during the critical period of fetal development and infancy. DHA is transferred directly from the mother to the fetus during brain and retina development or to the infants through breastfeeding. Recommended DHA dose is 200-300 mg/day.
- 800mcg Folic Acid – Folic acid, sometimes called folate, is a B vitamin (B9) found mostly in leafy green vegetables like kale and spinach, orange juice, and enriched grains. Repeated studies have shown that women who get 400 micrograms or more (0.4 milligrams) daily prior to conception and during early pregnancy may reduce the risk that their baby will be born with a serious neural tube defect (a birth defect involving incomplete development of the brain and spinal cord) by up to 70%.
- Vitamins A, C, D & Zinc – Support Immune System Health
- Iron – Supports Blood Cell Production
- B – Complex (Vitamins B6, B12) – Supports Energy Metabolism
- EPA/DHA, Niacin – Support Heart and Circulatory Health
