Mrs. Dash Review and Giveaway

Working in health care, I have seen the ravages of poor eating habits take it's place with diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke, and obesity.  When I cook, my food usually comes out bland because I am paranoid about the amount of salt I have to add for something to taste good.  Especially coming from a family where stroke, diabetes, and hypertension has affected all of the generations.  Cutting down on salt is one way I try affect our eating habits in hopes that it will prevent my family and myself from being victims of such diseases.

Well, cutting salt usually means cutting taste.  However, using dried or fresh herbs or even Mrs. Dash to replace or limit salt would be a great way to flavor your food.

Fact: Americans consume 2-3 times the recommended amount of salt per day (recommendation: 1 tsp. or less). And with the new dietary guidelines advising that we should only consume 1,500 milligrams a day with the MAX being 2,300 milligrams (with current consumption often double that!!) cutting salt back should be top of mind for everyone!

Mrs. Dash Seasoning Blends are an all-natural blend of 14 natural herbs and spices that add a unique flavor to every dish, so you won’t ever miss the salt.  In addition to their line of Seasoning Blends which are both salt- and MSG- free they also have 6 salt-free marinades including Spicy Teriyaki and Southwestern Chipotle.

Other ways to cut your sodium intake:

  1. Choose fresh, unprocessed or fresh, frozen foods
  2. Read food labels for sodium content; use no-sodium or low-sodium seasonings
  3. Choose foods with less than 200mg of sodium per serving
  4. Limit processed foods such as canned or dried soups, canned vegetables, frozen dinners, “instant” foods and flavored rice/pasta packages
  5. Use less sodium at the table and in cooking; flavor food with lemon juice, fresh garlic, spices, herbs and flavored vinegar
