Neighborhood Free Admission Day at California Academy of Sciences

Don't forget that Saturday, September 29th and Sunday, September 30th is neighborhood free admission day at the California Academy of Sciences for those folks living in the following neighborhoods: Mission, Bernal Heights, Noe Valley, Castro, Cole Valley, Haight, Glen Park, St. Francis Wood, Lake Merced. Note that proof of neighborhood residency is required.

The California Academy of Sciences is a world-class scientific and cultural institution in Golden Gate Park, a 400,000 square foot structure that houses an aquarium, a planetarium a natural history museum and a 4-story rainforest all under one roof.

Free Event: Balboa Skate Park Opening Event on September 29th

For all you skateboarders, be sure to bring your skateboard and appetite for the grand opening of Balboa Skate Park in San Francisco on Saturday, September 29th from 12pm to 5pm. Free Giant Cardboard Lego Building Event at Dolores Park on September 29th

For all you lego fans head on out to Dolores park tomorrow, Saturday, September 29th at 12pm and participate in a free event where hundreds of cardboard boxes have been painted to look like giant Lego pieces and strategically covered with velcro. You can build anything you can possibly imagine with them.

The event will be free and open to the public and will last until people get bored or the authorities intervene.

Awesome Foundation wants to provide a creative outlet for people who have outgrown their building blocks but still remember how awesome it is to create your own castle. Defy Euclidean geometry, construct an epic fortress and recapture your childhood love of buildin' stuff. Kids can play too! The boxes are sized so a child or an adult can easily work with them. Note that the boxes were made with latex-based paint so those with latex allergies may want to avoid coming into contact.

Smithsonian 8th Annual Free Museum Day on September 29th - Lots of Participating Bay Area Museums

Smithsonian Magazine’s 8th annual Museum Day takes place tomorrow, Saturday, September 29th  as participating museums and cultural institutions nationwide and will open their doors free of charge for you and one guest when you download the Museum Day Ticket. A few of the participating Bay Area museums and cultural institutions include De Young, Legion of Honor, Cartoon Art Museum, Hiller Aviation Museum and more. To see which museums and institutions taking part in the Smithsonian Free Admission Museum Day go here.

Details on the Smithsonian Free Admission Museum Day: 
- Offer is valid only on Saturday, September 29th except for museums that are closed on Saturdays.
- One ticket for two people only.
- One ticket per valid email address.
- One ticket will gain entry to participating museums
- Ticket must be presented for free general admission to one venue and is good for two people. Not valid for special exhibits, parking, IMAX film screenings or for use with any other offers.
- Only an official Museum Day Live ticket is eligible for free entry.

Note: Museums and cultural venues participate in Museum Day voluntarily. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for individual museum content or participation.
If museum reaches capacity, museum has right to limit guests until space becomes available.

On Sunday, August 12th Jack London Square Farmers Market has partnered with Ami, Josh, and others of Bike Share East Bay to bring you the latest edition of BikeShare from 10am - 2pm -- a quarterly gathering where cyclists share ideas, skills, and stories in 10-minute presentations. It’s like the TED Conference – for bikes!

A bike mechanic from Bay Area Bikes will be on hand to do bike safety checks and recommend any adjustments. Need something fixed? Bay Area Bikes just opened a service shop alongside their bike rental store here in Jack London Square!

Pedal Powered Ice Cream | 11 am – 1 pm

Check out Spokeland Bike Co-Op’s bike-powered ice-cream maker, sample a scoop, and learn about the non-profit’s bike education space in North Oakland. It’s unclear whether the ice cream will be for free.

Cargo Bike Test-Rides | 10 am – 2 pm

Bay Area Bikes is lending their Yuba Cargo Bike to any cyclist who needs a bigger, sturdier ride to take their groceries home. Leave your bike or a credit card, and take the Yuba for a spin, free of charge! It will also be available for test rides at the market.

Free Bike Shepherd Registration | 10 am – 2 pm

Connect your name and contact info to your bike’s serial number, decrease the chance of theft, and increase the chance of recovering your bike just in case! Registration and information provided by Bay Area Bikes.

Free Raffle | Drawing at noon

49ers 2012 Fan Fest on August 12th

For all you 49ers football fans on Sunday, August 12th from 11:30am - 4:45pm at Candlestick Park the 49ers will be hosting the 2012 Fan Fest. Admission for the event is $5 for adults and kids 12 and under are free. Proceeds benefit the 49ers Foundation and its mission to keep kids “Safe, On Track and in School”.

Fans get an up-close experience with their favorite team and watch a live practice. The Grand Plaza will host food trucks, live music, a sports bar and various 49ers partner booths. There will be new 49ers merchandise to purchase. A chance to see the five 49ers Super Bowl trophies, Super Bowl rings and other rare memorabilia in the 49ers Museum. Kids can participate in games and drills to test their skills in the Kids Club area. Meet the 2012 49ers Gold Rush team and 49ers Alumni. The day will conclude with Coach Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers conducting a practice followed by an autograph session on the Candlestick Park field

The first 500 kids, ages 7-14, will have the opportunity to participate in youth football drills on Bill Walsh Field.

Free Children's Health Screening at Sam's Club on August 11th

On Saturday, August 11th from 11am - 3pm, Sam’s Club will be hosting free children’s health screenings at all Club locations with a pharmacy to both Members and guests.
 
The screenings will include tests for DNA, fingerprinting, oral health, body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure. Also for the month of August, Sam’s Club is partnering with Sesame Street to offer free “Healthy Teeth, Healthy Me” kits to help teach children about good oral health habits, which will be available in both English and Spanish.

Free Outdoor Music Festival + Free Ice Cream in San Jose on August 5th

On Sunday, August 5th at 530pm there will be a free outdoor summer music festival along with some free ice cream in downtown San Jose at San Jose State University - be sure to arrive early as supplies are limited. The Symphony Silicon Valley orchestra will be playing Gershwin and Gottschalk, Copland and Shaw, plus other patriotic favorites.

Golden Gate Bridge Outdoor Film Night In The Presidio

On June 2nd at 6pm head on out to the Presidio for outdoor film night presented by the Presidio Trust and the Walt Disney Family Museum  to commemorate  the Golden Gate Bridge 75th anniversary.
